I have a crazy idea.

Sometimes my favorite stories begin with the line "I have a crazy idea". This line, almost always uttered by the lovely Tiffany, starts us on a fun adventure down the road of, well, craziness.

Enter this blog. We've been extraordinarily inconsistent bloggers over at www.nangle.blogspot.com about various life/home/anything topics. Rather than continue the occasional random blog post trend, we decided to start a new blog - one with a focus around our efforts to create, renovate, and update the things around us. We are calling it The Inept Artisan because we really are not experts and figure things out as we go (or, afterward) and the work is done by our hands. I guess we use our brains too, but I am inept at creating catchy blog names, so we'll keep The Inept Artisan.

We recently bought a 1940's era home in Bellingham, WA. This home has patiently waiting 70 years to be updated, so we are taking it upon ourselves to provide it with said update. Dear house, I apologize in advance for all the havoc we are about to wreck. We'll make it right in the end, really!

So, back to the "I have a crazy idea" line. We both love to work on DIY-type projects around the house, but often need a place to start. Tiffany finds lots of inspiration from Pinterest, and I reap the benefits of second-hand Pinterest when Tiffany shares her crazy ideas. Our first project (currently in progress) began with a crazy idea to take a typical budget for a bathroom and shrink wrap it into a number we could actually afford. Basically taking an elephant and turning it into an aardvark. I really wanted to use the word aardvark in the blog post and now I've done it. Twice. Anyway... we have a sweet salvage shop in town, the Re-Store, (http://re-store.org/) and rummaging the Re-Store has helped us actually make this dream of renovating our bathroom realistic.

So, as a teaser, here is a photo of our bathroom... BEFORE:

As you can see, there is some serious potential in our bathroom (read: it needs updating). We'll talk about where we started and some progress in our next post.
